If you’re like me and you can’t get enough of warm mugs of holiday cheer this eggnog latte is for you!

With two very basic ingredients, espresso (or coffee) and eggnog, you can make your favorite coffee shop drink in the comfort of your own home! I use my homemade dairy-free eggnog recipe, but your favorite store-bought eggnog works great too.

I have all sorts of advice when it comes to the ingredient selection, so be sure to read the full post before jumping in. It’s a great way of infusing Christmas morning with something special, and can also be enjoyed no matter the time of year.

Not into caffeine? You can easily use decaf espresso or decaf coffee to make this festive drink.

Let’s dive into the details to make the perfect eggnog latte so we can enjoy it throughout the holiday season! The great news is all grocery stores carry what you need!

Eggnog Latte Ingredients:

Espresso (or Brewed Coffee): Any time you hear the word, “latte,” you know espresso is involved. If you have an espresso machine at home (such as a Nespresso machine), you’re all set for the easiest hot beverage!

However, if you don’t own an espresso maker, brew a strong cup of hot coffee. Both options work! I don’t own an espresso machine, so I go the coffee route and I find I enjoy the latte just as much.

Eggnog: Pick your favorite store-bought eggnog or homemade eggnog. Traditional eggnog consists of whole milk, egg yolks, sugar, and nutmeg.

I like using homemade eggnog because I like having control over what goes in it. My Dairy-Free Paleo Eggnog, Vegan Eggnog, and Keto Eggnog are all great options!

Optional Additions:

  • Make it Boozy – Add your desired amount of brandy, whisky, or rum to make a boozy coffee drink.
  • Add Spice – Sprinkle in some freshly grated nutmeg, pumpkin pie spice, or ground cinnamon to your personal taste.
  • Sweeten it Up – Depending on your eggnog, you may want a little extra sweetness. You can easily add pure maple syrup, simple syrup, or brown sugar until you reach the taste you’re looking for.
  • Chill It – If you’d prefer an iced eggnog latte, simply brew your espresso or coffee, then pour it into a glass of ice. Add in your cold eggnog, stir, and you’re all set! You can also use cold brew coffee here.
  • Warm It Up – Add a small splash of pure vanilla extract to add warm flavor to your cozy drink.
  • Make the Starbucks Version – Two shots of espresso and about 14 ounces of eggnog wins you a Grande sized homemade eggnog latte recipe.

How to Make an Eggnog Latte:

Begin by selecting your eggnog and espresso/coffee for your homemade latte. Prepare your espresso or your coffee, making the amount consistent with the ratio you are going for.

Tip: I do 1 shot of espresso for every ten ounces of eggnog, or ½ cup (4 ounces) of strong brewed coffee for every 10 to 12 ounces of eggnog. You may need to play with your own ratio of espresso to eggnog!

While the espresso or the coffee is brewing, heat up the eggnog. I use my milk steamer to make frothed eggnog, but you can also heat it in the microwave (stirring every 30 seconds), or on the stove top in a small saucepan.

Tip: The optimal milk temperature for a latte is around 140 to 155 degrees Fahrenheit. If you’d like, use a digital thermometer to keep tabs on the temperature.

Once you have your espresso (or strong coffee) and your warm eggnog, pour both into a large mug. Give it a big stir, and enjoy! If you’d like, give it a sprinkle of nutmeg or ground cinnamon, or garnish with cinnamon sticks. Some fresh whipped cream turns your mug into an extra special treat!

Tips for the Best Eggnog Latte:

  1. Make it your desired strength by playing with the ratio of coffee to eggnog. Some people prefer equal amounts of coffee and eggnog, where I prefer a much more generous portion of eggnog. A Starbucks eggnog latte recipe (in the Grande size) consists of a scant 16 ounces of eggnog and two shots of espresso.
  2. If you don’t own a fancy milk frother steamer, you can use a handheld frother to froth the milk for that iconic fluffy consistency.
  3. Get the temperature of the eggnog just right! Avoid going below 140 degrees F or above 155.

The next time you’re craving a festive warm beverage, make this easy eggnog latte to warm your belly and soul!

Make it in the morning to wake up or in the evening using decaf to wind down.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups (12 oz.) Homemade Eggnog, or eggnog of choice
  • 1 to 2 shots espresso, or 1/2 cup (4 oz) strong brewed coffee*

Optional add-ins:

  • 1 splash bourbon or whisky, for a boozy beverage!
  • freshly grated nutmeg, for more flavor!
  • 1-2 tsp pure maple syrup, to make it sweeter

Instructions

  • Heat the eggnog on the stovetop, whisking consistently until it begins to steam but not boil. If you have a milk frother, now is a great time to use it in order to heat and froth the milk!
  • Brew a batch of strong brewed coffee (or 1-2 shots espresso) and pour it into a large mug. Pour in the warm eggnog and stir. Garnish with freshly grated nutmeg, and enjoy!

Notes

*One shot of espresso is between 1 and 1.5 ounces of espresso. You need 1 to 3 ounces of espresso (or 4-6 ounces of strong coffee), depending on your personal taste.
