This easy Vanilla Frozen Yogurt recipe is sweetened with honey for a mindful treat. Whip it up at a moment’s notice for a cool and refreshing dessert!

Vanilla Bean & Honey Frozen Yogurt

This three-ingredient frozen yogurt is no more complicated than mixing store-bought or homemade plain whole milk yogurt with honey and the scrapings of a vanilla bean.

Pour it in your ice cream maker, et viola! Homemade vanilla frozen yogurt with honey.

Frozen yogurt is one of my favorite treats, especially during the summer. Making it homemade is now a rule I have set for myself.

You see, I can’t be trusted at frozen yogurt shops, because proper utilization of empty space is a thing for me. When handed a giant empty bowl, I must fill that bowl.

And because I am an over-achiever, I’ll over-fill it with toppings.

The price? No less than $20 each and every time. Closer to $25.

So homemade honey yogurt ice cream deliciousness? A treat that won’t make you question your sanity.

Vanilla Bean & Honey Frozen Yogurt

Vanilla Frozen Yogurt Ingredients:

Whole Milk Plain Yogurt: Pick a brand of yogurt you know you love. I prefer using plain whole milk yogurt, but you can easily use a sweetened, flavored yogurt.

Honey: We need some form of sweetener. I like using liquid sweeteners in this application because they blend into the yogurt easily. Pure maple syrup or honey are my two recommendations.

Add sweetener to your personal taste. Some people prefer barely sweet fro yo, and others prefer very sweet yogurt.

Vanilla Bean or Vanilla Extract: I like using a vanilla bean to flavor the yogurt because it brings richer vanilla flavor. Nevertheless, you can swap the vanilla bean for 2 teaspoons of pure vanilla extract.

How to Make Vanilla Frozen Yogurt:

  1. Freeze the bowl of your ice cream machine 24 hours in advance of making this recipe (or follow manufacturer instructions).
  2. Add the yogurt and honey to a bowl and stir together until completely combined. If your house is cold and the honey is solid, you can heat the honey slightly on the stove just until it’s pourable. You can also mix the ingredients together in a blender.
  3. Carefully slice an incision down the whole length of your vanilla bean. Open the bean and using a dull knife, scrape the small black specs out of the bean and add them to the bowl along with the pure vanilla extract with the yogurt and honey.
  4. Mix everything well and pour mixture into your ice cream maker and follow the instructions according to your maker.
  5. Serve immediately after frozen yogurt is ready with honey drizzled on top and walnuts. You can also get creative with your toppings, adding fresh fruit like berries or sliced banana.

Notes

*homemade is fine as long as it’s whole milk
For best results, serve the frozen yogurt immediately after it’s finished in the ice cream maker. Save leftovers in a freezer-safe container, but note that you’ll need to thaw the yogurt out for quite some time before it’s soft enough to serve

I kinda have the same problem in fro-yo places. I just feel like the bowl is there, shouldn’t it be full of yogurt?? And then I get to the register and pay $900 and think, “oh yea, that’s why I just prefer old fashioned ice cream places…”

I can only fill up a cone so far. Thank goodness for my waistline.

Yooooou said it. Every time I go to fro yo, I end up paying the same amount it would cost for a half gallon of ice cream. Reeeeeediculous!

Around here our favorite comes from a local shop, it’s tart and sweet – plain yogurt (I’m sure there is a bit of sugar, but it really tastes like yogurt.)
