Roasted Radishes - an easy tutorial on how to make perfect roasted radishes for a healthy side dish.

Full disclosure: I’m not into raw radishes.

I know. CRAZY considering I write the blog on root vegetables.

But roasted radishes??

Well. Horse of a different color, my friends!

Roasting radishes gives them a nice crisp on the outside and soft interior. While raw radishes have that spicy bite, roasting them removes that and you’re left with a nearly flavorless vegetable. This is perfect for adding bold flavors, like garlic and onion!

I love dipping roasted radishes in Green Goddess Dressing or Paleo Caesar Salad Dressing. I mean, they do make a marvelous caravan 😉

Radishes contain antioxidants, calcium, and potassium. For this reason, they are a great food for a low-inflammatory diet, and actually help with hydration! One article I read said radishes help increase blood flow – perfect for those of us who have restricted blood flow or inflammatory issues.

Let’s roast some!

Roasted Radishes Ingredients:

Radishes: Radishes come in a bunch with the greens attached in the produce section. Remove the greens and rinse the radishes well before consuming. You can use the greens for pesto sauce if you’d like.

Radishes come in various shades of pink, red, purple, and white. The radishes you find at the story are primarily round, but you can also find radishes that are more oblong.

Avocado Oil: Because we’re roasting at a high temperature (425 degrees F!) we need a high-temperature cooking oil to ensure our radishes (and our oil) don’t burn. I always use avocado oil, as it has a very high smoke point (480 degrees F), and a neutral flavor. You can also use algae oil if you keep it on hand!

Sea Salt, Black Pepper, Garlic Powder: Used for seasoning the radishes and giving them tasty flavor, I use sea salt, black pepper and garlic powder. This combination makes for an enticing roasted radish!

Optional: Add minced fresh garlic 5 to 10 minutes before the radishes have finished roasting. Don’t roast the garlic with the radishes the whole time, as it will become hard and deeply brown.

How to Roast Radishes:

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.

Slice the radishes in half and place them on a baking sheet. Drizzle with avocado oil and sprinkle with sea salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Use your hands to toss everything together until radishes are well-coated in oil and seasoning.

Season the radishes with sea salt, pepper, and garlic powder

Turn the radishes so that they are all cut-side down.

Roast 18 to 25  minutes, or until the radishes are golden-brown and have some wrinkles. Give the radishes a little shuffle half-way through (I jostle them around with a spatula after 10 minutes of baking).

Remove radishes from the oven, allow them to cool for a few minutes, then serve!

And that’s it! I hope you enjoy this easy, tasty side dish!
