Ingredients

  • 3 large ripe avocados about 23 ounces
  • ¼ cup fresh lime juice
  • 2 large cloves garlic minced
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt to taste

Optional Additions:

  • 1 cup fresh cilantro leaves chopped and loosely packed
  • ½ cup red onion finely chopped
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes chopped

Instructions

  • Note: If your avocados are very firm, use a sharp knife to chop them into small chunks before attempting to mash them with a fork. This will make them easier to mash.

  • If you have any additions, such as fresh cilantro, onions, jalapeno pepper or chili peppers, salsa, sour cream, or fresh tomatoes, stir them in until well combined.
  • Use this traditional guacamole recipe on everything from tacos, burrito bowls, burgers, salads, tostadas, grilled chicken, and more. You can also serve it with tortilla chips for a chips and dip appetizer everyone will go crazy over.

Notes

How to Store Guacamole:

Store leftover guacamole in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. The best way to slow down the oxidation process is to lay a piece of plastic wrap right on top of the surface of the guacamole in addition to covering the container with a lid to avoid air pockets.
Guacamole is best when eaten within the first 48 hours, but it can last several days longer in the refrigerator. You can also place one or two of the avocado pits inside of the guacamole to keep it fresher.
You can freeze guacamole in ice cube trays in the freezer. Once frozen, you can pop out the frozen guacamole cubes from the trays and store them in a zip lock bag for up to 3 months.
