The Good-For-Your-Brain-&-Joints Smoothie

What do you name a smoothie?  Places like Keva Juice and hipster smoothie/coffee joints have this task down pat…but I clearly don’t. So I’m pretty sure I just (as in JUST now) decided that my smoothies will be named after their health benefits.

This one is good for your brain…and your joints. It’s the Good-For-Your-Brain-And-Joints-Smoothie. And it tastes gooood.

What makes it great for your brain and joints? Blueberries and cherry juice.  Both are very high in antioxidants.  Blueberries are a brain food and have been shown to improve memory. When I was in high school, two of my good friends and I had set out to do a “brain food” night around the end of the school year. We were going to do “healthy” things like eat “brain food” (including blueberries…and steak…is steak really a brain food? No one knows) and “study” for finals. We got drunk instead.  Whoa, I really let that slip…sorry mom. No really, I am….one of your Disney cups from McDonald’s got broken that night when it haphazardly threw itself in the gutter. Wasn’t my fault.

Bringing us back from that unnecessary tangent, blueberries are truly amazing fruit and I especially love them frozen in my smoothies. They keep the smoothie cold. I love that. Cherries are also great for the body. It has been said that they relieve inflammation and joint pain. Particularly, tart (red) cherries are said to raise your dopamine levels. Awww, they make you happy! This should be called The Good-For-Your-Brain-&-Joints-&-Happiness-Level Smoothie.

When I started this blog, I made vows to myself…some of which I have broken…one being the smoothie thing. I vowed I would not post a smoothie recipe. Well here she is, folks, and she ain’t even my first…the Banana Beet Smoothie was the vow breaker and I have a feeling there will be a smoothie or two in the future.  Drink this and let me know how your brain and joints feel! 🙂

  • 1 whole ripe banana
  • 1 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1/2  cup cherry juice
  • ¼ cup plain yogurt

Makes smoothie for one.

To Make:

Add all ingredients to a blender (I used my Magic Bullet). And blend until the liquids are spinning smoothly. Blend well, folks, no one likes a chunky smoothie.
