My mealtimes all revolve around protein. If you follow me on Instagram, I probably sound like a broken record, as I have mentioned many times in the past, I take a but first, protein approach to food. I make sure I get at least 20 grams of protein at every meal, and in the event that I snack between meals, I make sure my snacks are protein-centric as well.

In addition to making sure I get adequate protein throughout the day, I also tend to drink a smoothie for either breakfast or lunch. That may seem like a pretty light meal, but my smoothies are typically on the higher calorie end in the way of smoothies, and have a pretty decent macro profile.

I’ve found that having one liquid meal per day also helps with digestion – simply put, liquid is far easier for your body to process than solid food. In this sense, protein smoothies are currently a big deal in my life, as I usually drink them after I workout to replenish muscle glycogen and feed my broken down muscle fibers with protein.

As you know, I’m a daily drinker of the bulletproof coffee, but from time to time, I enjoy an afternoon homemade coffee treat such as a Pumpkin Spice Latte, or an Eggnog Latte. While I do enjoy a nice holiday-inspired treat, I’d choose a hot beverage over a Christmas cookie if you can believe it.

There’s something about sipping on something warm, warmly spiced, festive, and ever so slightly sweet that just brings all the holiday cheer to your heart and soul.

Sometimes that special something is straight up coffee and whisky during a day of snowboarding, and sometimes that special something is an eggnog latte.

After whipping up The BEST Vegan Eggnog a couple weeks back, I went on an Eggnog Latte kick (using decaf coffee, because girl’s gotta sleep, you know?).

In all honesty, I shy away from using the terminology, “The Best,” but you guys…this really is THE BEST VEGAN EGGNOG TO EVER WALK THE LAND <- All caps for emphasis.

Seriously, I’m shocked by how seamlessly this recipe materialized out of the ether…it basically walked right up to me, smacked me ever-so gently on the face and said, “Make me, you silly woman.” You think I’m kidding, and I’m not.

Before I discovered my banana intolerance, I drank smoothies every day. Since going banana-free, I go in and out of smoothie kicks depending on the state of my gut health. If I have an IBS flare up, I gravitate toward replacing a meal or two with a smoothie or bone broth, as liquid is much easier on your digestive tract than solid food.

This fig beet blueberry smoothie is one of my recent happy-gut concoctions. It incorporates ingredients that are not only easy on your digestive system, but are welcomed with open arms. I use a fig, a few hunks of beet, blueberries, pineapple, coconut milk yogurt (probiotics), almond milk, ground cinnamon, raw pumpkin seeds (a natural anti-parasitic!) and some collagen peptides (awesome for repairing damaged gut lining!).
