Happy Saturday, friends! How about a little Saturday Smoothie Talk?

Can we sip on antioxidant-packed superfood high-octane energy bevvies while we discuss the simple and fun things in life, like TV and…TV??

Break out your blender and follow along!

What I’ve Been Watching: I’ve got four words for you: Net Flix Orig Ionals. I’m obsessed with everything Netflix puts out. I finished Wet Hot American Summer within three days of its release. So well-scripted, so sultry, so well-casted, well-costumed…super swell show. Also, I finished Season 1 of Bloodline this week. HOLE-EE-MACKEREL, does that show raise your blood pressure! I found myself nervously picking at my nails with my eyeballs glued open, and my heart pounding as a I held my breath while watching it on the ‘Flix. Like, I LITRALLY didn’t breathe at all, that’s how into it I was.

CURRENTLY: I just started watching Grace and Frankie. It’s refreshing, it’s real, it’s funny, it’s light, it makes you feel like you’re in good company, absolutely love the cast. Oh, and if you haven’t seen The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt yet, I recommend it. Just so hil-ar-ious! Pinooooooooooooot!

What I’ve Been Reading Lately: Where’d You Go Bernadette. I’m speeding through this book so quickly that I’ve had to force myself to put it down so that I can make it last. I love the way the story is composed, the writing, the characters..it’s all just too good. Plus, it makes you feel like your crazy’s not as crazy as other people’s crazieses, so there is that.  I’m also trying to push through The Emerald Mile, but you guys, there’s only so much non-fiction I can take.

What I’ve Discovered Lately to Make Me Go Whoa: Men’s Health Magazine. As it turns out, men’s magazines are 17 times cooler than women’s. True fact. Why?: 1.) Realistic food articles (not diet-y or calorie-centric, but protein and fat-centric…up my alley) with pretty interesting recipes 2.) Awesome sex articles. 3.) Beautiful men with beautiful muscles…I mean, duh. 4.) The key info is highlighted (in legit yellow, you’uns!), which making skimming over content a breeze. 5.) Great results-oriented fitness articles that aren’t mamby pamby fitness articles. 6.) Fresh and interesting science-y articles. Yes, I’m a geek.

What I’ve Been Doing Lately: During the week, it’s work, work, work. I’ve been fortunate enough to have lots of freelance projects that keep me busy and well-fed. I go for short trail runs and attend a spin class at my gym a couple times a week..but basically, I just cook, photograph, write, and fall on my bed in a fury of Netflix splendor.

ALSO!: This summer, I’ve started an evening walk ritual..kind of like a summer concert series, but not. It just involves a post-dinner walk almost every night…kind of like a digestif, but not. On the weekends, I high-tail it to the mountains and go hiking, lay in the sun, and day drink. And of course, I turn on the computer a few times to check bloggy things, because: control-freak-workaholic…just can’t help me’self.

Travels: I had a lovely trip to Portland, OR last week to visit my homeslices at Bob’s Red Mill. I can’t wait to share stories and show you the photos next week! In September, I’m flying to Denver to visit friends. We’re heading to Breckenridge to drink all the beers at their Oktoberfest.  And that’s all I have planned for the remainder of the summer. Perhaps a weekend trip to the coast? See some fishies? Would be fun!

Things To Come this Fall: Vegetable carbs! I’ve been working ahead and making recipes for fall over the past couple of weeks. All’s I can say is prepare yourselves for sweet potatoes, sweet potatoes, beets, sweet potatoes, and winter squash galore!

So this cherry blueberry ginger smoothie. It’s blissfully sweet, sensually spicy, beautifully creamy, a perfect post-workout snack, a meal in a glass. Have you ever added fresh ginger to a smoothie? It really kicks the whole experience up a few notches.

Ginger is one of my favorite roots because it really does wonders for your digestive system. Whenever I have an upset stomach (or a cold!), I reach for the fresh ginger and make tea or a smoothie. It truly has healing powers and settles the ol’ GI tract, just like many other root vegetables.

…And then we have the antioxidant-packed cherries and blueberries, which are like summer in a glass and are so appealing in your face hole. Seriously, I think one of my favorite ways to consume cherries is in smoothie-form. Just be sure you don’t over-do it by drinking this smoothie a few days in a row, because too many cherries can really put a damper on your digestive happiness. Trust me, ‘taint pretty, folks. Add some hemp seeds for a little Omega 3 and Omega 6 infusion. And the cashew butter, though. The protein…the creaminess…the yum.

What have you been up to lately? What have you been watching, eating, drinking, what books have you been reading? Podcast suggestions? Travel plans? What’s new and old?
Get that Saturday!

Umm, your life sounds wicked. I am writing down all of those Netflix shows because since cancelling my cable a couple of years ago I'm always on the hunt for new stuff to watch. Also, I bought a Vitamix last month and I cannot stop with the smoothie-making. Going to have to add this gem to my list! Portland is on my travel wish list, and clearly I need to check out Men's Health Magazine.

I'm generally reviling any mention of fall recipes, but you mentioning sweet potatoes three times in a row is just making me swoon. Also, I see this smoothie in my breakfast future...as in I'm picking up the ingredients from the store tomorrow after work and feasting on it for the rest of the week!
